Award Winning schemes put Environment first
When I met Dawn she greeted me with an open smile and got stuck right in, much the same way as she approaches her role within City University.
As the Environmental Officer, a job that did not exist before she was able to convince her department was a necessity in the face of the social and environmental movement throughout the University, she has forged great links between the institute and other local organisations. Additionally she has been instrumental in improving the environment around City, organising the Green City Week for the past two years, along with the projects such as the compost garden run by the Environmental Champions.
It was a hectic time for Dawn, the start of one of the most critical weeks of the year for her and the Champions. Green City Week may still be in its infancy, but by improving awareness to students at City there is a high chance that the success of such movements across the capital and the country will gain momentum.
City is well-known and established as an institute of high employability within very influential industries, in engineering, social sciences, journalism and business and finance, as well as law. These five industries are arguably among the most powerful in deciding policy within Britain and as such getting the students on board may dictate the direction in which future decisions of the nation may go.
She has been dedicated throughout, with her and her husband living as sustainably as possible. Their belief in the importance of such attitudes on life reflects well on the passion behind the projects. With support from the upper echelons of the college, and the increasing public understanding and perception of the issue of climate change, environmental protection and conscious consumerism, Dawn’s role is as vital as it has ever been.

from the volunteers and contributors. The developments throughout the campus, including gardens, solar panels and even the construction of a new energy-efficient power-generator for the main buildings are a testament to her enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.
