The European Science TV and New Media Awards will be held on Monday 22 November at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in central London. The evening, organised by the UK Research Council, will recognise high quality coverage of science stories over the last year. The awards are also an important chance for scientists and journalists to interact through something a bit more personal than a press release.
This year’s ceremony includes seven awards:
- Best TV Documentary
- Best TV Drama
- Best TV General Programme
- Best New Media Production
- Best presentation of Science or Technology behind an Environmental Issue
- Young Persons Award for the Best presentation of Science & Technology in a TV Documentary
For the first time the awards will also include a prize for Best Presentation of a Science or Technology Story by a Woman. The award represents the UKRC’s dedication to advancing gender equality in science, engineering and technology.
The evening is being held in association with the BBC’s Year of Science which started in January. The year of events sees the BBC wholeheartedly embrace all things scientific with a series of TV and radio programmes, online projects, road shows and learning campaigns. The initiative aims to highlight contemporary science issues as well as looking at the history of science and how it has shaped the way we live.
The award ceremony will also feature a session presented by the BBC which will discuss the future of science and technology, and the challenges broadcasters face in reaching different audiences around the world.
The Elements team will be there in force, watch out for a full report next week!
